I admit that sometimes I feel extra giddy when unpacking a beautifully wrapped order. It’s like my birthday but I bake my own cake and eat it too. In reality, I would have been as equally happy with my purchase if I bought it at the mall, the item shoved in a crisp paper bag with its receipt.</span><p></p><span id="docs-internal-guid-64f79a2f-7fff-f9f6-d86d-83cc8ea8db30"><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Last night as I was scrolling through Instagram, I chanced upon a video ad showing how a shop packs their products. Kraft box stuffed with crumpled kraft paper, item wrapped in honeycomb “bubble wrap”, then sealed with a ribboned twine. The item? A plastic phone case.</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">A month ago, I received a package in a kraft paper box, items individually wrapped in tissue paper then cushioned with shredded colored paper, sealed with a bright red ribbon. The items? Fabric headbands.</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">As a meticulous online shopper, I painstakingly check each and every review before buying the item. A lot of these reviews, I would conclude through their wording, are extra forgiving of product flaws because the packaging was a feast for the eyes and the unboxing experience superb. I could never gauge whether the item actually worked most of the time.</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">For sellers, of course the logical thing to ensure good ratings and remain competitive is to step up their packaging aesthetic. Fresh box, pretty paper, scented paper, smooth paper, colored paper, shredded paper, luxe ribbons, or for some, maybe all of the above. I am yet to order something expensive to find out if someone actually puts everything in.</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Of course great packaging is important especially for breakable products. I’d for sure want that extra cushion if I’m ordering a glass bottled serum more expensive than a good steak. But for products that could withstand the harsh conditions of shipping (the heat of the sun during transport, the intense tossing as per viral videos, whatever horrors they face that we are unaware of), the necessity of triple wrapping is nonexistent.</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">We are so fixated on that 5 seconds of unboxing bliss, we tend to forget that after we take away all the wrapping, the only thing that matters is the product. The wrappers? Trash bin stuffing, dump truck passenger, landfill nobody. All the extra material, no matter how biodegradable, is still unnecessary waste and additional product cost. Wouldn’t you want to pay a little less for a product because no extra packing cost is passed on to the buyers? But that’s beside the point. </span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">As long as we give great importance to the view once we rip off our courier pouches and the luxurious experience of removing tissue paper away from the product we ordered, the cycle of wasteful shopping and selling will continue.</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Notes:</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">As buyers, here are few suggestions of what we could do:</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">-Check product reviews. If they’re particular about packaging and you think it’s unnecessary, inform the seller of your packaging preference. They will most likely let you know if the extra wrapping is a need.</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">-Do not fixate on the packaging when leaving a review. Focus on the product. This way, sellers would feel less conscious about making the packaging overly aesthetic.</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><span id="docs-internal-guid-3cf90e0f-7fff-493c-7c94-503ad269fb9d"><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">-Recycle. Save your boxes and stuffing to use for future gift wrapping. Smoothen out and keep crumpled paper for arts and crafts like scrapbooking. Toss shredded paper in the compost pit (do your research first if the paper is good for composting.) Save the huge sheets of bubble wrap (of course make sure to clean them) because you never know when you’ll need it!</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">-Send your parcels to companies that recycle them! There are a number of pages on Facebook that accept used mailer pouches as long as they’ve been cleaned (and your private information removed!)</span></p><div><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></div></span></div></span>Art Cadencehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05757551094763821130noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4625598404523318821.post-53563067319126202862020-07-06T16:47:00.002+08:002020-07-06T19:00:46.990+08:00RECIPE: BAKED SAMGYEOPSAL<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
The baking trend started picking up when people stuck at home due to coronavirus had already had enough of their boredom and decided to do something to beat the blues.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Eventually, people found a way to turn their favourite savory dishes into bake-able trends in order to easily share with or sell to others.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Baked sushi is in the top trends these past few weeks, sellers popping left and right. After trying it once, I wanted to make my own but supplies for its ingredients are low here in Palawan so I had to let go of the idea. Until I stumbled upon an article talking about a new thing someone is testing out: Baked Samgyeopsal.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wanted to try it out immediately but I couldn't find any recipes online. So I decided to fuse my sushi bake and samgyup knowledge to make this recipe.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

-1 tsp grated ginger</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
-1 tsp sesame oil</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
-1/2 tsp black pepper</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
-1/2 cup scallions</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Other ingredients:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
-sliced cheese</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
-mayo</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>PROCEDURE</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Meat:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. Thinly slice your choice of meat and chop in bite-sized pieces.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Mix all marinade ingredients together and let the meat sit in the marinade for at least 1 hour.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Cook in a pan on medium heat for 3-5 mins.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Fried rice:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. Turn the stove on medium heat. Put butter in the pan. Once the pan is hot and the butter has melted, saute onions.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Add the chopped kimchi and kimchi juice. When the kimchi juice has started to evaporate, add the Spam. Toss and stir until the spam has gotten a darker color.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Add the rice. Toss and stir until all the rice has turned orange. Add kimchi juice as desired.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. Add the soy sauce and sesame oil. Keep tossing and stirring for 5 more minutes. Turn off the heat and set aside.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Assemble:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees celcius)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. In an oven-safe pan or deep dish, place all the fried rice first.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Cover the top of the rice with slices of cheese.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. Place the meat on top of the cheese.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
5. Add mayo on top as desired</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
6. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
ENJOY!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
NOTES:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
-You may skip the cheese or mayo depending on your taste</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
-Add as much kimchi as you like depending on your liking for spicy food<br />
-You can opt out on the Spam for the fried rice<br />
-Add gochujang if you want some more spice!<br />
-Like the baked sushi that is wrapped with Nori, try wrapping your scoop of samgyup bake with lettuce!</div>

I’ve been trying to find a hobby that I could do anywhere and make anything with so I decided to try this out since I could shoot and edit with my phone. I can’t believe that since I’ve started uploading again (after 4 years or more!) since about a month ago, I’ve already made 10 videos! I’ve been going to
many different places in the first half of 2019. “It’s part of her process of
coping”, my mother explains. Even when we're at the home base (temporarily, my
aunt’s abode), I still like tagging along to every trip everyone goes to even
when they’re only leaving for a doctor’s appointment. Although college friends
would say that I am half vampire (afraid of sunlight) and half cavewoman (no
access to light so doesn’t go out at dark), my habits around my family are
different.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
So, when everyone was
scheduled to leave the house one day and their agenda I couldn’t be involved
in, everyone was worried if I was okay to stay home. And I mean WORRIED. You
can hear the concern in their voice and pity in their eyes that I would be locking
myself in the four corners of the house for hours. Even my mom who was staying
behind with me was willing to go out and do nothing at a mall or something just
in case it wasn’t okay for me to laze around.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Truth is, I am fine
with it. Honestly. Even though I love going out and strolling around most times,
there are times I would just like to stay home and relax. Be bored and fight
boredom. Do everything or do nothing.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
But If you’re ever
stuck at home with no agenda, here are a few not so usual things you could do
with your time:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0n5eHJIHU4HxzTWwE-H1cekMjnFgI71tfLymEHLQHT8c0yTBbK7IJCQ9U0hIx8RagiYFgrpcy7WpptO7J5UxWRm0PN9S2c30hDZ8cA_QCkBrhbeguClKqeh_YOU3BIFxrjkuAjxtCm1CH/s1600/IMG-4724.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1127" data-original-width="1600" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0n5eHJIHU4HxzTWwE-H1cekMjnFgI71tfLymEHLQHT8c0yTBbK7IJCQ9U0hIx8RagiYFgrpcy7WpptO7J5UxWRm0PN9S2c30hDZ8cA_QCkBrhbeguClKqeh_YOU3BIFxrjkuAjxtCm1CH/s1600/IMG-4724.JPG" /></a></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b>
<b>MAKE ART</b></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
If you’re not really
an art enthusiast and don’t own fancy coloring materials, there are probably
broken crayons lying around somewhere from way back when you were in grade
school. Dig those up and get some fresh paper from your printer tray and you’re
good to go. Can’t find any crayons? Black and white art is a thing! Just use
any pen you have and get creative with it.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibL8tChksfKNi23o7Lp7-QvyT-5EPWlPowW9AIcnvagvuvOevj0sv5MXB5nKIme3_QSLDeS2u7es6AJCM5pSvO6vbqJr8rDwLYgxxJeNiT5bxA6H-qwvbGr2KcdmEWLUgCN18sXznRTlKm/s1600/IMG-4174.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1324" data-original-width="1600" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibL8tChksfKNi23o7Lp7-QvyT-5EPWlPowW9AIcnvagvuvOevj0sv5MXB5nKIme3_QSLDeS2u7es6AJCM5pSvO6vbqJr8rDwLYgxxJeNiT5bxA6H-qwvbGr2KcdmEWLUgCN18sXznRTlKm/s1600/IMG-4174.JPG" /></a></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<b>WHIP UP A DISH</b></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
For everyone who
lives alone or is designated cook of the household, this suggestion might
infuriate you. But think about this: when was the last time you experimented on
a new dish? Last week? Last month? Never ever? Well this is the chance to do
it! Anything in the pantry will do as long as you understand the science in
cooking. You will either surprise your family with a hearty meal. If you’re
experimenting alone and it fails, nobody will know! (Food pictured above is obviously not groundbreaking but at least I tried!)<o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<b>READ SOMETHING NEW</b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Book reader? Switch
things up and look for some highly rated comics. I just read my first comic
online yesterday and wow was I wrong to say no to this before (Read: Batman:
Court of Owls; Batman: City of Owls). Comic reader? Get yourself a book or look
for some interesting short stories online. If I ever want to read something
short and quick, I go for stories by The Brothers Grimm (I love the original
version of the sappy fairy tales). This may sound weird, but I also enjoy
reading synopses of horror movies since I don’t watch them. Also, READ THE NEWS
FROM CREDIBLE SOURCES. This is the best place to get lost in online. But
whatever you choose, enjoy!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<b>LISTEN TO NEW MUSIC</b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Spotify that isn’t on
premium is never a curse. Not being able to pick the specific song you want
lets you discover new songs and artists and listen to genres you’re not
familiar with. I cannot count how many times I’ve forgotten to renew my
subscription and end up adding so many new songs on my liked items, some from
famous artists who I’ve never heard of because I was closing myself off from
them in my own music bubble. On premium? Go to the playlist of the latest hits
and enjoy! Using Youtube? Just let it autoplay!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
There are so many new
things you could try to do with your free time or old hobbies you could revisit.
Get your butt off that couch/bed! But if you want honesty, I wrote this after finishing
100 levels on Matchington Mansion and I’m not even sorry about how I wasted my
time. Oh well...<o:p></o:p></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Yesterday I was suddenly craving for grilled chicken from one of my favourite fast food places that serves unlimited rice. I don’t like eating at crowded places but knowing that it was already past 2 in the afternoon, I was confident I’d get a bite of the chicken that I want. As we were walking towards their corner at the mall, I immediately spotted that there was a huge amount of diners at such an odd hour. My mom then points out her observation that Filipinos do enjoy eating.</span></div>
<div style="font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">We eat for and because of anything and everything. We eat to celebrate wins, we eat to mourn losses, we eat like vikings during birthdays, we eat during funerals, we eat to mark a year of love, we eat to cry over broken hearts. We all find comfort in food especially those bites that take us to a gastronomic roller coaster ride.</span></div>
<div style="font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 20.3px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div style="font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">On my most recent trip to Palawan, a friend brought me to this little restaurant, nothing fancy, down the road that leads to the old airport. She mono-block bragged about this place being really good but the monoblock chairs and plaid patterned tables didn’t really give me much of an impression. After about 10 minutes, our food started coming and my friend still kept trying to sell it to me how good they will be. Upon taking my first bite, dang it, she was right. Their Nacho Salad was a bed of crispiness, covered with a blanket of greens, tomatoes, saucy ground beef, and cheese. An entire bowl was enough to fill the tummy. Their cheapest burger, only worth 60 pesos, did not disappoint either. Soft buns sandwiched a juicy and flavourful patty, paired with fresh and crispy lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Fast food burgers would’t stand a chance. The Buffalo Wings was also a show stopper. It was far from the generic, orange coloured, spicy wings that everyone knows. This one tasted different but good different. Paired with a sour cream sauce and you have a winner. Their Asian Salad was very good too. The greens were surely fresh and crispy and the dressing was the right amount of sweet and sour with a little kick. </span></div>

I believe that the mark of true frugality is not only buying
cheap but buying what will give you the most out of your money. I remember
buying a single serve blender from a popular online shop that sells a range of
items for cheap prices. Got to use it for 5 power breakfasts straight and then
never again. Not my choice though. It was the blender’s choice. So, I ended up
having to buy a second blender from the mall. Pricier than the first one but it
lasted even after I stopped trying to eat healthy meals. I never bought
appliances from that website ever again, by the way.<o:p></o:p></div>

One way to truly get the most out of your money is to get
creative with what you currently have. Remember last time I wore a skirt as a
top? That’s what I’m talking about. You can also use your large scarves as a
tube top or a belt, fold up long pants to make it cropped, get a stool that can
double as a side table, a knife for your carrots and potatoes could also be for
someone’s back. Maybe not that last one, but you see? The possibilities are
endless!<o:p></o:p></div>

Or if your creative juices are dried up you can just buy
things that are labeled multi-way like that cutting and slicing set for your
produce that supposedly has 14 different functions, but you end up using it
once and then stash it in the lowest drawer for nobody to find. Pants that zip
off and transform into shorts are also still out there (although I do not recommend
making an embarrassment of yourself). If you don’t belong to the 1% that wears
shants, then you’d probably be interested in a fancy belt bag and strap in around
your waist today, leave the belt tomorrow and use as a clutch, or just leave
all your valuables at home and just use the belt. It works in many ways. <o:p></o:p></div>

Cut-out hearts are hung on red strings, flowers adorn shop

Blessed was I to grow up in a home that knew love. Kisses,

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
One of the things I’ve learned, and I’m sure we’ve all heard
this, is that love is a give and take. And while many would argue that in this
giving and taking, both parties must give equal and take equal, I beg to
differ.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Sometimes, we would find ourselves in the giving end of the
spectrum without getting anything in return. We would lose sleep over a rush of
tears streaming from the eyes of the other at 3 in the morning. We would get
our ears talked off and our hearts sinking when the other needs an episode of
feelings hour. We would find ourselves sweating buckets over the hot stove to
whip up a hearty meal for the other who’s sick and stuck in bed. I could go on
and on with my examples of moments we give and give and not having anything to
take. And that’s fine. That’s love. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKYu-yMyxIJ4Xszxogdw07UdRKhgVvgLIOZKWWCIgXp3HFhDypYEpOmww-ul3CDMALOuZuf8D9E4Yu8QYWQhuI3oDuz6Nnbu8zwArV0Lc5DYiAXU01u5Pp-9usyOgS-X2yxLwUBqRHcs4/s1600/IMG-7078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKYu-yMyxIJ4Xszxogdw07UdRKhgVvgLIOZKWWCIgXp3HFhDypYEpOmww-ul3CDMALOuZuf8D9E4Yu8QYWQhuI3oDuz6Nnbu8zwArV0Lc5DYiAXU01u5Pp-9usyOgS-X2yxLwUBqRHcs4/s1600/IMG-7078.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Then there will be times that we’ll find ourselves in the
taking end of the spectrum without anything to give. There will be times when
we would need a shoulder to cry on at 3am when the world only keeps a little
light at the end of the street and the only sound you hear is the buzz of the
night. We would sometimes want to talk endlessly about the pent-up feelings we
try so hard to push down but couldn’t and all that’s left for us to do is
erupt. We will find our selves every now and then burning up, curled under the
covers, dripping in snot and sweat, needing a warm and hearty meal to make us
feel a little better. It may seem embarrassing to be taking without anything to
give, but it will be fine, because letting someone give to us is love.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
And there will be times when we will feel that all we’re
ever doing is giving. We may find it somewhat exhausting, but we will not
frail. Because the kind of love who gives wholeheartedly is the kind of love
that loves unconditionally. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
While some people seek this kind of love from a significant
other, know that this love could also come from a mother, a father, a brother,
a sister, or a friend. This love is the kind of love we should not only rejoice once
a year on the fourteenth day of the second month. This is the kind of love we should give thanks for every moment, reciprocate every minute, celebrate every day,
and cherish for a lifetime. Unconditional love.<o:p></o:p></div>

Every graduating college student knows that in order to gain
the diploma, one must first go through the needle hole of producing a
supposedly-outstanding-but-good-enough-is-okay thesis paper. For us art majors,
a product as an output from your research must come hand in hand with that
hard-bound thesis paper. My research topic then was focused on pinya fabric.
You know, the delicate, hand-woven fabric that probably the only people who
still have this in their closet are the oldies or those younger generations who
do have this probably stuff it at the back of the closet. In fact, most things
that are made using traditional methods like weaving get shoved far away from
the spotlight or thrown in the dump. One of the reasons why, according to my
research back in my thesis writing days, is that people think these things look
dated and out of style. Asked what they could recommend I do with pinya fabric
so they’d consider using something made from or with it was that I incorporate
it on something that looks fresh and can be used regularly. So that’s what I
did.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Way before I started working, I could barely name materials
used in designs that were made from the gifts of nature. I could only name the
pinya fabric, of course because my father wore them almost every day, and the
banig/pandan weave which my brain only associated with those totes you see in
the streets of Divisoria. Of course, it goes without saying that my duty as a
designer was to familiarize myself with these different materials the company
utilizes. But now that more and more companies have started to recognize these
materials and the beauty of hand-made products, more people would be able to
know of these materials as well. Reinventing old products by giving them a
contemporary look has encouraged a whole generation who once wouldn’t even
bother giving these handmade goods a second look to take pride in what we call
our own. I’m happy to say that not only have they saved the dying art of
weaving and the many struggling communities who make all their products by hand,
they’ve also given these materials a new face in this world. If all goes well,
future generations will remember these materials and products as a statement
and as something to be proud of. Unlike me who is still reminded of the old and
the boring whenever I see these materials raw or deconstructed.<o:p></o:p></div>

Have you ever been hounded by the chilling idea of the
phrase “History repeats itself”? As I skim through history books back in high
school, not really bothering to learn the exact dates and locations of things
that took place, and intently listening to college professors on their
narration of the past, I find myself afraid, thinking about the time in the
future when these gruesome battles of freedom and power once again take place.
If I (and many others) may say so myself, they’re taking place now, but a
mask of roses and rainbows hovers over these reports on our bright screens. <o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Like world history, fashion history also repeats itself. In
my 20 years of existence, I’ve already seen animal prints go from okay to
trendy to awful and finally back to Anne Hathaway wearing it on the red carpet. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
I remember when I was little, my dad had this tiny leather pouch, that seemed
quite unfit for a bank manager, strung to his belt where he would put his
phone. To my delight, that didn’t last long. Later, I’d see these pouches, much
bigger now, on the waists of people selling goods at the market, tricycle
drivers, bus conductors, basically people whose jobs involved a lot of exchanging money. And then in 2019, there’s me (and a bunch of other girls and boys in
their teens and twenties), sporting what the fashion industry has popularized
as a fanny pack. Gone are the days that the pouch on the waist meant you had a certain
kind of job. For the fashionista, this was the bag to bring on a casual day
out. Hands-free, carry the world, light as air, barely even there. And although
judging eyes may follow and fashion challenged frenemies would ridicule, this
one might take a while to circle back down to untrendy. </div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
In the digital age of scrolling at 50 posts per minute, not
a lot of people stop to read huge chunks of captions let alone entire pages of
clumped up words they call articles. One of the reasons many people get tricked
into believing fake stories across the web is that writers who are out to cause
destruction use catchy but misleading titles because, yes, people only read the
titles. Honestly, if an author’s first 100 words aren’t strong enough, I just
end up exiting and their write-ups just get flushed out of my brain. My quick
judgement towards other people’s way of writing is probably the reason why I’m
anxious to write lately, other than the idea that I pour over my heart and soul
on a large blank space only to be shunned by the rest of the internet. In this
era of fast paced swiping and scrolling, does anybody ever really stop to read
and understand?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
I have always had a complicated relationship with my
creative space on the web since I graduated high school. At some point in
college, I decided to just give up and toss this site in the back burner. The
only thing that keeps me from doing it is that my portfolio is hung on one of
these tabs. But look at me, I’m revisiting the old friend from high school
again to give our relationship a shot once more.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Not entirely sure what to write down, let me just tell you a
story. The story of why I have once again tried to resuscitate a dying part of
my life.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Back in the day I remember my father didn’t really like the
idea of blogging. He always told me how much of a waste of time it was posing
for nonsense photos, uploading them on a platform for people who don’t care at
all. He also stressed how it was a waste of money to keep buying clothes
for the sake of dressing well for the same people who wouldn’t bother to look.
I never budged though. I kept doing my thing, while my father kept watching me
do it. After a few years, I guess he finally understood why I liked being here.
I love dressing up, looking pretty, and taking photos. But most importantly, I
love to write. I just found writing about fashion was the easiest yet most
heartfelt thing to write about for a 13-year-old who had little experiences in life to
talk about. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
I think my father enjoyed reading my work that he finally
stopped discouraging me to own a blog. Sometimes I’d dig deep into my heart and
write about my life and him and mom would be the first ones to read it. After
they point out all my typos and errors, he’d chat me up on how happy he is of
my writing. One thing he’d always tell me was how proud he was of my skill of
putting thoughts and feelings into words. He’d tell me to keep on writing
because he was certain that I’m great at it. And my favorite comment was that he’d tell me that
my brother and I were so much better writers than he ever was. As someone who
thinks that her father was the greatest at anything academic related, this was
gold.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Now that he’s no longer around, I’d like to keep going
forward with something with his stamp of approval. Although people might no
longer be interested in long sentences and thick paragraphs, I’m going to carry
on because no matter how tiny the readership population may be, I’m sure
there’s one reader out there that the blogsphere doesn’t have the ability to
count.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
If you still don't know, it's about time that you do. I have a knack for fashion design as much (and probably more than) I have for the real life dress-up-in-store-bought-clothes game. I have always been designing clothes that we get custom-made for special occasions like formal events, awarding ceremonies, themed parties, and just about any instance I can get something made from fabric I personally chose. One time a got a designing spree moment when a friend celebrated her sweet 16th and each of the 16 girls who performed that night had to have a dress made. I was probably high for a week from all that designing. I never really had a chance to share my designs back then. But now I have the perfect avenue: my blog of course! So here are some of the pieces I designed that I still have with me.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
This is the first of the five blog posts I’ll be sharing that features some of my fashion design works in the past. I did a half day photoshoot with some friends during the break and now I’m ready to share the outtakes with all of you!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
This first one was the gown I worpe for my graduation ball almost 3 years ago (I’m still the same size). I didn’t want to go around a hall, dancing, eating and all in a huge, poofy gown, so I opted for a design that didn’t involve a petticoat. I also wanted to incorporate some print to stand out since printed gownas aren’t really that popular when it comes to prom or graduation ball. For the neckline and back detail, I wanted something that accentruates my collar bones, and a little party at the back. My basic design then evolved into a round neck with a v-back cropped top and a reversible skirt creating a two-piece gown.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The second post of the fashion design series I’m sharing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Never would I have ever imagined that I would be designing,
let alone hand sewing, a beaded blouse and skirt for a MATH class. I have been
avoiding math classes my whole college life despite being a mathematics fan all
my life. I don’t know but it just sounds so much scarier now that I’m at a university
already. Thankfully, the only math class available to fine arts students was
Math 1, the easiest, most elementary-feeling math class I’ve ever had in 7
years. Anyway, our final project was called “Math Everywhere” or so I think, I
don’t even remember anymore. The idea was to present some other field that involved
mathematics like a sport, a board game, or whatever. So of course, I had to go
with math in fashion design! I’m not going to bore you with the details on how
math is involved because 1) you’ll leave me forever and 2) it requires visuals.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
About my design, I went for something simple that I could
pull off sewing by hand while I was still working on 4 other plates. I decided
I would make a prom inspired ensemble with a two-piece style. I bought a
cropped top in the cut and color that I wanted then bought some fabric and
beads that would make up my beadwork design. The floral design is actually part
of the “math” so I had to carefully measure, cut, and seal the edges of all 100
flowers, then attach them with a pearl bead to make a clean finish. I then hand
sewed a circle skirt (because there’s math in it too) with a belt in a
different colored fabric to make the two-piece style become more visible.</div>

Have you ever noticed how people nowadays don’t experiment
on different cuts and styles of jeans and instead just stick to the very
well-known mid-rise skinny jeans? Well I haven’t really noticed since my mom is
not one to wear the skinny type but when I wore this pair to school for the
first time without rolling up the bottom, people were commenting on the
straight cut of my pants and how it’s high-waist but not the usual ones that
are extremely high and is usually seen in jeggings. <o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I’ve always wanted to wear this pair out again without
having to roll them up but since they’re too long for my height, I have to wear
them it with heels which is such a pain since I commute around Cebu. But lo and
behold, I got myself a pair of super cool kitten heels a few weeks back, and
now I can wear these jeans with flare in whatever way I want to style it.
Paired it with a tight, black cami and covered up with a lace sleeved kimono
for a contemporary twist on an 80’s bell sleeved, bell bottom combo. Now where
can I get a pair of Lenon inspired sunnies?<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I’ve seen Liz Uy do this layering style a bunch of times now
so when I tried to cop it, I decided to point out in my caption that I was Liz
Uy-ing (verb. a method of copying the unique styling tricks of Liz Uy.) Lately,
I’ve also spotted this blouse layering tactic on clothes sold online but the
trouble is both blouses come together, and you can’t take them apart. I hate
buying clothes I can’t style multiple times so what did I do when I desperately
wanted to try this off shouldered polo over another blouse trend? Whip out
(again and again and again) my dad’s old long sleeved white polo that’s too big
for my frame but just the right size to do the trick.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
It might look super complicated but I’m telling you, it’s
really not that hard. You just start by putting on an under blouse, then put on
your unbuttoned polo and let it fall to your shoulders then start matching
those buttons. This style works better tucked in because there’s a huge chunk
of the polo that kinda droops at the back. But if you’re wearing a shirtdress
polo, then no worries!<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Wore mine with skinny jeans and point shoes then decided to
pull my hair back in a neatly clipped way a la Liz Uy. Et voila!<o:p></o:p></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
A few weeks back, I answered this short quiz online that
would tell you whether your style is American or French. Guess what? I got ‘French’!
Which prompted me a few days later to wear something inspired by things I see
on mood boards for a French inspired project but gave it a twist that would fit
the streets of Cebu.<o:p></o:p></div>

One of the things they say that would always be ‘Parisian’
is a Breton shirt. Since the last time I had one was way back in high school, I
used my long sleeved striped shirt instead. Good thing it came in maroon, which
looks slightly subtle and not at all “loud” for a French girl’s taste. I then
paired it with my cream colored straight cut slacks, and wore block mid-heeled sandals to make myself look tall despite the
pants making my legs appear like logs. Topped off the look with a handkerchief
tied around my neck in a navy blue and white color, a color that always goes
well with maroon.<o:p></o:p></div>

<span style="font-size: xx-small;">(Please excuse my scattered thoughts)</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
The clicking of the keys on my
keyboard roars for two seconds then dies out for 2 hours. Clicking noises
again, then dies out almost immediately as a flame on a matchstick blown out
before it reaches the tip of the fingers holding it. I haven’t written about
anything close to my heart or stuck in my mind in so long, all I could think of
right now is that I miss writing and that I crave to put my thoughts into
beautiful words.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
I turn to my right trying to look
for some inspiration only to catch a glimpse of an instant photo lying around.
It’s a picture of my family; my family who I haven’t seen complete in 5 months
or so. No, we’re not separated because of family issues. We’re just torn apart
by priorities, academic ones to be exact. Which reminds me, I miss home so
badly. I miss the smell of fresh air with a whiff of freshly cut grass. I miss
waking up to the sound of a knife hitting a chopping board and the sizzling
sound of raw meat hitting a hot frying pan. I miss listening to the tunes on
the car stereo while rain rolls down the fogged up windows, revealing twinkling
lights from the streets. I miss having hands to hold and cheeks to kiss during
mass on Sundays. I miss what used to be my norm.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
Three years into college and all of
these have turned into something else. Home is the sound of my loved ones
voices on the phone while bundled under the sheets. The smell of the air is
anything but a comforting fragrance. I wake up to the sound of my phone ringing
and water splashing on the floor as my other dorm mates get ready for school. Rainy
day commutes mean getting wet while boarding a jeep, getting suffocated because
they cover the windows, and all I hear are endless honking of every other
vehicle. Sunday mass is me having my hands empty because it’s no longer a usual
thing to hold a stranger’s hand when singing the Our Father, and awkwardly
nodding at other people to say “peace be with you.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
Clicking noises stop again.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
Slowly, my thoughts that have been buried
deep beneath the sand under my sea of thoughts, bubble up to the surface,
bobbing face up. Maybe the reason why I haven’t written in a while is because I’ve
come to the point in my life that everything I do is part of a routine. My
actions, my words, my train of thought, all belong to an endless loop I’ve
created to adapt to the shift of my lifestyle that I don’t enjoy. I’ve created
a cycle to make it easier to dismiss the fact that I am no longer happy about most
of the things that go on in my life. I’ve attached myself to repetitive
actions: Sundays are for mass, brunch and the grocery, Mondays to Fridays are
for school, and Saturdays are for extra school load.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
I’ve allowed college to consume me
when what I should be doing is consuming what I learn every day. I allow stress
to roll in and never let it out thinking that stress is all just part of it and
overcoming all these obstacles while letting stress overwhelm me is an
achievement, not knowing that if I don’t release it, I’m probably going
nowhere. I remember studying for a test for 4 days straight, while at the same
time, thinking about how bad I’m probably going to fail, how ugly it feels to
fail, how disappointed I and my parents would be if I failed. I got a 1.5 on
that test but knowing how hard I tried to study, I still felt disappointed
because I know I could have done better, if only I hadn’t mentally multitasked
studying and thinking about failing. I could only wish I hadn’t stressed myself
out unnecessarily.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
College has eaten me up pretty
badly, I almost don’t enjoy making arts and crafts projects outside of class
anymore because I’ve gotten so sick of working days and nights designing and
making things in exchange for good grades; chart topping grades that I know
will make my parents proud. Sometimes I come to school with puffy eyes just
because I’ve been crying all night while working on a plate that I’ve worked
hard on for days but never seems to get finished until a few hours before
submission. I have even come to a point where I express how I’m secretly so fed
up with art, then having people ask me why I feel this way. I never answer so
they proceed to telling me that “art is life” and that I shouldn’t feel like this.
These conversations mostly end with me shifting to another topic while silently
thinking that “if art is life, then why does it make me feel tired and
lifeless?”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
I repeatedly think to myself that I
took an art major because this is what I’ve always wanted, this is what I
always do, this is what I want to pursue. And you know how people keep saying
that if you do what you love then you’ll never work a day in your life? Then
why do I feel like a huge load is on my shoulders and I’m not, even for one bit,
having fun? I come home every day, tired. I wake up every day, tired still,
wondering when all this will end.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
Clicking noises fade again. My mind
is exhausted.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
A knock on a neighboring room wakes
my senses and I look to my right once again. I look at the instant photo once
more. I am waken up inside.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
I realize how important getting
straight A’s are but also how it’s important to live a little. I begin to
devise a plan how I’ll sometimes take a step back and breathe a little, to
spend time on things I actually enjoy, like doing something as simple as
turning a frown upside down. I’ll call my loved ones and talk to them about
everything for hours, take long walks along the polluted road and think of how
blessed I was to have grown up in a sweet smelling neighborhood, let droplets
hit my face on rainy commutes or maybe even dance in the rain a little, and
offer to hold my seatmate’s hand before we sing the Our Father in church. Do
some, if not all, of these once in a while just to break the cycle I use to
mask my boring, stressful life. Maybe then, I wouldn’t reach the point of
emotional breakdown over a frustrating plate, or not think of failing a test
while I'm studying to ace it. Maybe then, everything wouldn’t seem so hard
anymore.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
I convince myself I can stray from
routine, and even tell myself I could start tomorrow.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br />
I close my eyes to rest and I
remember that in a month, I’ll be flying back home for a 3 week break. Back to
the smell of fresh air and moist greenery, to the sound of raw food getting
diced and the sound of a searing pan early in the morning, and all the other
things I associate with home.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
When I come back to college in the
second week of the new year, I’ll be back to missing home, stressing out, and
hating art at times. Back to craving to do what I love. Back to entering the
loop I probably never left in the first place.<o:p></o:p></div>

I’m trying so hard not to procrastinate on any of the
important stuff that I have to do but I’m also trying to make time to do things
that I’m passionate about. It’s been so long since I last picked up a pocket
book or even go through that section of a bookstore because whenever I visit
this local bookstore chain, I only have time to look for materials for school.
I can’t even remember the last time I did a slightly complicated DIY that
wasn’t going to be graded by a professor. I’m not complaining though. I love
being in the Fine Arts but the hustle and bustle of the uni life seems so
toxic, I think I need a breather every now and then. And since writing,
dressing up, and constantly being in front of the computer are 3 of my top
hobbies, I decided to try to blog again, but this time, with a promise that
I’ll only be posting things that I think are of good quality like outfits that
make me more confident and happy than the usual, some new styling trick I tried
out, or some other things out there that peak my interest and I think a lot of
people would like to read about. I may not be able to post that often due to
this, but at least I know I’m posting quality stuff. Pretty much like curating
an Instagram feed! Watchu think?<o:p></o:p></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Remember this trend from years ago when women would wear
oversized long sleeved polos as tube tops? I vaguely remember that during those
times, social media was filled with collages of the step-by-step process on how
to achieve it. I wasn’t able to try it out back then because I was still in
high school so we had uniforms so I had little room to experiment. I know
almost the entire population of non-uniform wearing students would agree that
having to dress up in a different outfit every day is the first big problem we
encounter during school days. It’s a pain in the ass, yes, but having this
freedom to dress up in any way we want has given me the chance to experiment on
different styles. Hence, I finally got to try this long buried trend that I
tried to dig out of its grave.<o:p></o:p><br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Because I’m super concerned that the polo that I turned into
a tube top would be too showy, I incorporated some layering by wearing a
shirtdress underneath. See how my silhouette looks elongated because of the
tube top giving the impression of a very short dress that makes everyone’s legs
look like they go on for days but I didn’t have to compromise comfort because
the extra length of the neutral colored shirtdress saves the day. Gave it a
sporty touch by completing the look with sneakers and a backpack. The layering
totally saved me from a day of having to constantly pull my tube top up.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well hello again blogger world! Hello again readers! So I haven't blogged in 5 months because of school, as per ushe. But it was all worth it anyway so I just stocked up on OOTD photos throughout the semester to share with all of you all throughout my two months of <strike>summer</strike> bipolar weather with nothing to do. I really missed writing so expect a lot of blabitty blab in my future posts much like what I'm doing right now. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway, I know you've seen this before but since it's the first time I've tried it out, I really wanna share it with you all. I took my denim button down shirt and turned it into an off-shoulder top. It's pretty simple. For those of you who haven't tried it yet, just leave the top two buttons unbuttoned, pull the sleeves down your arm until the first buttoned button and hole (lol what) is tugging on each other in your desired height (in my case, until I'm sure it covers everything I want covered) and tie the bottom part of your shirt together cause it's gonna be hanging. Et voila! You now have a new way to wear you button down.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Slightly conservative female tip: if you're just like me and don't have enough guts to wear your off-shoulder button down blouse out (I swear I tried looking at myself in the mirror a hundred times while I paired this with a skirt or pants), layer it with a dress like I did, use a spaghetti strapped undershirt, wear a corset blouse, or wear a tube top underneath. </div>

Yes, I know. Yes, I know, yes, I know, yes, I know. I wore the same hat on my previous post. But seriously, I've been looking for an un-overpriced hat for so long, I just want to wear it everywhere. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Doesn't my skirt remind you of school girl skirts? Well, that's what I first thought of too when I saw this in my closet when I went home during Christmas break. Proud to say it's another one of my mom's DIY skirts. This is a total no brainer, but I put on this white blouse just because it reminds me of high school, and it's the first item in my closet that went perfectly well with the skirt. Put on some brown oxfords (no, not black shoes because, duh!) and a brown belt to match. Topped it all off again with my every trusty, but seriously bulky and I don't recommend for commuters or people whose destinations aren't at a walking distance, royal blue hat. This post is so much less bluer than the previous one, doncha think?</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you've been reading my blog or have been following me for a while on any social media platform, you'd know how much I love wearing blue. The thing though is blue isn't my favorite color. In fact, I don't have a favorite color. I just pick the color that suits the item best (and I don't know how many times I've tried to explain this fun fact about me).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So apparently, this is the blue-est I've gotten so far. I threw on different shades of blue and matched them with some whites. Topped it all off with silver accessories and put my new hat on. It wouldn't have ended up being this blue if I wasn't going on a flight home. But since this coat is one of the heaviest pieces of clothing I have and I really want to bring it with me, I just wore it to lessen the weight of my luggage and also keep me warm! (Travel hack yay!)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I haven't blogged for a few weeks now because of a few things. One, I've got a lot on my plate. Plates, plates and more plates. Two, I've been lazy. It's been so long since I last blogged, I almost lost track of my blogging and editing cycle. Three, I haven't been taking blog pictures a lot. I have no idea why.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So the colors on my outfit remind me so much of cotton candy (which also reminds me that I've been dying to eat cotton candy for a long time now). All the colors on my clothes and shoes are very subtle, and are standing on the pastel side of the line so I decided to use my royal blue bag for this ensemble. My bag is seriously a part of this whole thing going on cause if it weren't for my bag, I'd look like a walking piece of gum that's already been chewed then spit out (I'm so always so pale like that) (and I'm sorry for the slightly gross simile). To all the boys who's dating a fashion girl, take note (your girl might have already pointed this out from Style Bible): you can offer to carry her hand or shoulder bag but never force her to. If she doesn't want you to carry it for her, it's because it's part of her entire outfit, and your carrying the bag is going to break it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have been a voter; I have also been a candidate. I have
seen how important a single vote is. Of course, that’s just for a small
population of high school students who oftentimes barely even care whose names
they write on their ballots. In a place where only 2 parties exist, mudslinging
is just a whisper, and there are only about 400 voters, a single vote matters.
One vote can make or break a tie, where in this case, the likelihood of it is
definitely not slim. For a community with a very small population, every vote
matters.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
But does every single vote matter during the national
elections? Think about it. There are millions and millions of Filipino voters.
Now think about this: in the recent past, has there ever been a time when the
final vote to be tallied would determine the fate of at least three people
running for the same position? If I recall correctly, the winning candidate
would always top the others by thousands of votes. Not only thousands but tens
of thousands. So, would it really matter if I won’t include myself in the tens
of thousands of votes that helped the winner? Or would it really matter if the
losing candidates lose by one more vote?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Coincidentally, I turn 18 two months before the upcoming
elections so recently, I decided to get myself registered for two reasons: One,
I become a responsible citizen, and two, I wanted to get a voters ID, an
addition to the collection of cards that make me feel more of an adult. But it
has been recently made known to me that I might not ever get a voters ID like
my parents. So that dream’s down the drain. I am left with only one reason that
I got registered: to be a responsible citizen.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As the days go by, more and more people sprout in the media
telling everyone their desire to run for a national position, and what position
they desire. Day by day, more politicians appear on the news with smiles
plastered on their faces, witty lines ready at the tips of their tongue,
sanitized hands all set to reach out to the poor. At least one article is
published online every hour for the past couple of months about a candidate
doing a good deed, making a bad move, or even something of zero significance to
voters. In the age where most people believe what is fed by the media, more
specifically the internet, where people cannot tell factual article from
satirical news, in a time where a single share can reach thousands of people at
a time, I no longer know what to believe.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Being a former non voter citizen of the Philippines, I am
one of those students who watch the news every night during dinner time,
throwing comments at most, if not all, government officials for their obvious
incompetence or for whatever wrong doing of theirs as of the moment. As a
citizen who has a lot of complaints about our government, I have burdened myself
with the idea that I must make a wise decision on the upcoming election day. I
have filled my head with the idea that I must choose wisely, so I would never
regret in the near future that I shaded an egg beside a candidate’s name.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Considering that I make up a percentage of the voting
community who spends a huge amount of time on the internet, I have been trying
to turn my mind into a scanner for truthful articles or lie filled write-ups.
To be honest, it isn’t easy. Like I said, we are in the age where people cannot
tell factual from satirical and sometimes, I’m one of those people. Probably
more than 50 percent of my social media feed is taken over by politics, and
there is absolutely no way to escape them. No matter where you go, turn left or
right, there is always a post on a former politician’s wrong doings behind the
camera, a neophyte politician’s good records, or a current politician’s mixed
feedback, all coming from a source you would most likely find believable like a
trusted network or a dependable publisher. I feel like I am being sucked into a
hole by the social media, I no longer know who or what to believe, I’m almost
at a point that I believe nothing.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
But do I really have to stress out myself into trying to
make a vote I would not regret in the future? Do I really even need to vote?
Considering that I am barely a significant being in our huge society, my
endorsement doesn’t even count. So should I even bother? Am I even mentally
mature enough to make, what we all believe, an important decision? Is eighteen
years of age old enough to make a vote? Do they need my vote? </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I know a lot of people will come up to me and tell me my
vote matters. My vote is my right and if I don’t vote, I don’t have a right to
complain about the next leaders of this country. Truth be told, I do not want
to be robbed of that right, the right to complain. Some people would give me
recommendations on who I should vote. This might even take a whole day of
discussing a politician’s strong points and their opponent’s mile long list of
weak spots. There is even a slight chance that somebody would tell me that if I’m
too lazy on the day of elections, I don’t have to vote. But I do want to vote.
I dream of voting for my future leaders. I have a desire to be able to make a
life changing decision for the benefit of my country.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
But my final questions are these, and I want you to think
real hard about it first before you shove answers in my face: Will my vote ever
really count in a sea of voters who may or may not have thought through their
egg shading as much as I did? And if my vote really matters, how do I know if
such candidate deserves my only chance in the next three years to cast a vote
amidst all the mudslinging and whitewashing around me?</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Knight of the Round Table or A sociopath solving crimes?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
I’ve always had a knack for books, movies, TV series, games, or just about anything that involves a mystery, some thriller, a case to solve, a spy or a detective. I’m pretty sure I’ve been watching CSI (and loving it) since I was in elementary. If I ever get my hands on a Nancy Drew book, I’d be done reading it by the end of the day. One of my favourite movies to date is Kingsman: The Secret Service. Plus, Sherlock Holmes has always been my favourite fictional character (right after Power Puff Girls). So when I saw this coat in the department store (they don’t sell knee length coats often), I knew I wanted it. First, it was a knee length coat. A KNEE LENGHT COAT. Nobody walks around in knee length coats but omygosh, it’s a knee length coat for crying out loud! As a girl who loves dressing up, this was a major score. Second, I swear there’s this subconscious urge to buy the coat because it pretty much resembles the coats detectives on TV wears. After 2 days of pondering, I finally bought it! No regrets. My look and props speak for themselves. But here’s the question: what am I? A detective, or a spy?</div>

Another one of my mom's work. It reminds me of a peacock. Very famous in island where I was born, although ironically, you wouldn't see any of them just crossing the road or flaunting their feathers in a farm. In fact, I've never seen a peacock outside a cage. It also reminds me of a kaleidoscope. I've never had one of those but I really enjoy look in them whenever I visit museums for kids. I can even make myself one right now.</div>

We all know this looks an awful lot like a summer outfit, but it works well for windy days too, to give your legs a breather from wearing pants all week (and, no. I don't wear pants all week. I never do). I just kept my whole look casual for the reason that I really want to give off a summer vibe. Also, I really needed a breather from all the school work we have to submit. </div>

A the song says, "rainy days and Monday's always get me down". But no, I can't say the same. I love rainy days and can't be dragged down by Mondays. Why am I telling you this? Well the day I picked out this ensemble, it was raining cats and dogs outside but I had to run some errands. I was seriously bummed out that day (by how much work had to be done , plus I was carrying my DSLR around because of photography classes, and since I'm not in my hometown, nobody was around to drive me to the places I had to be at, which means I'll get at least a little bit wet by the rain, the inside of my bag would get a little wet because of my umbrella, and all the things I'm bringing around with me will also get wet cause I only have a teeny tiny umbrella) I decided to dress for the mood and the weather. I wore my powder/ silvery blue blouse that mom made, paired it with my navy blue harem pants and brought a black blazer with me to keep me warm. I could've gone for a brighter colored cover up but like I said, I'm dressing for the mood. But in the end, (despite the rain and the mud and all the hassles in life)I chose to wear my white oxfords so I wouldn't look so sad and grungy.</div>
